UWC Benin National Committee is a volunteer-led group dedicated to selecting and supporting students and their families for the UWC movement. Our members are passionate about education and international understanding, working together to create opportunities for young changemakers.
Who forms the National Committee?
Our UWC National Committee is made up of individuals who share UWC’s mission and values. These include:
- UWC alums and their families – Former students who have attended UWC schools or short courses and their families, bringing firsthand experience of the UWC journey.
- Education professionals – Teachers, school administrators, and educators who are committed to nurturing young minds and promoting transformative education.
- Community leaders – Individuals from various sectors who support youth development and global citizenship.
- Other volunteers – Supporters of UWC who contribute their time and expertise to help select and guide students.
Our history and impact
- UWC Benin National Committee was accepted as a national committee in 2014 by the International Office of UWC.
- With Dr. Joannie Marlene Bewa, we applied to become a UWC National Committee in Benin and luckily, our application was approved and in August 2015, we sent our first student to Germany.
- UWC Benin National Committee has been selecting and supporting students for the past 10 years.
- Over 6 students from Benin have attended UWC schools and colleges since the committee’s formation, making UWC accessible to students from all backgrounds.
- Each year, we receive numerous applications and carefully select students through our rigorous selection process.
- It hasn’t been a smooth road but we are still there.
